Legal status

ChipMates is a registered German nonprofit organisation (gemeinnützige GmbH), incorporated in Freiburg im Breisgau. Handelsregister Amtsgericht Freiburg HRB 728848. Recognised by the German tax authority for the charitable purpose of promotion of education (Förderung der Bildung) under § 52 AO.

What we make

We work on one project at a time, in the open. Our current work is Agora Cosmica, a Living Library where thirty remarkable people from philosophy, science, art and activism speak in crafted first-person portraits. The platform is free to use, contains no advertising, and the source code is published under AGPL-3.0 at github.com/ChipMates.

How we operate

We are supported by donations and public interest grants, never by selling user data or attention. We do not run advertising, we do not track visitors, and we do not store personal data on our servers. The entire stack is hosted on European infrastructure.
